Editor’s Note: Since publishing this article our preferences for visual style and content have altered slightly and this article will not be kept updated to our current list of mods. All of the mods here are still recommended very highly, but if you want a full, current list of all 100+ mods we are running in Skyrim VR on PC, then you can. It was already fantastic when it and now that it takes full advantage of the Rift and Vive’s more powerful hardware and improved controllers, this may very well be the definitive version of Bethesda’s timeless RPG epic fans have been waiting for. We certainly can’t get enough of it.And even though Bethesda for Skyrim VR, as long as they don’t rely on the Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE) and you’re okay with doing a bit more tinkering than usual. We’ve got a guide on using mods with Skyrim VR right here.So now that we have Skyrim VR on PC and we’ve got mods, the question is which mods are the best?

That answer might be a bit different for the VR version of the game so we’ve done our best to put together a comprehensive list of recommended mods, split into a few different categories. Our goal with these mods is to toss in as much as we can that still retains a lore-friendly approach to the game and will still feel like Skyrim, but just make it betterand offer more. The Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition PatchBefore you install any other mods you should grab this one. This fixes a bunch of bugs that Bethesda never got around to fixing and it applies to the VR edition as well.Best Skyrim VR Graphics ModsThis one is actually a collection of several different mod files, each of which address different areas of the games textures from the landscapes and bridges to cities and mountains.

Definitely get them all. The better GPU that you have, the better your performance will be but the visual improvement is just absolutely worth it.Makes the plants and grass and trees look way better.Road signs in vanilla Skyrim are almost unreadable and they just look downright blurry in VR. This fixes that.Textures and meshes are two different things. You don’t really need to know the difference, but just understand that you’ll want this mod on top of the Skyrim 2017 Textures mod to address the areas that one misses.Skyrim does not have the best looking character faces. It’s a fact that Bethesda still struggles to make a decent looking NPC.

Skyrim lore names

Superior Lore-Friendly Hair (SLF-Hair) This is a simple mod that can improve the appearance of many NPCs in the game and your character as well. Superior Lore Friendly Hair is a texture replacer for vanilla hair - meaning, it doesn't need any esp nor it will not install new hairstyles to the game - it will just change the appearance of vanilla.

Skyrim

Luckily, modders are helping out with this nifty mod. This mod enhances all of the water throughout the entire game to make it look even better. Standing beside a peaceful lake or watching a cascading waterfall in VR is extremely calming. Make sure and grab.Once you’ve got the base visuals and textures enhanced, this mod is really the cherry on top. It will improve all of the weather effects and really make Skyrim feel like the dangerous wilderness that it is.This is the best and most comprehensive lighting mod, but it’s not 100% confirmed that it really works with Skyrim VR. I have it installed and don’t notice much of a difference, so maybe a better one is out there. This one is great for non-VR Skyrim though. This mod is very customizable for the blood detail, color, and splatter size. I love cranking it up so that I feel like even more of a badass warrior while playing.Best Skyrim VR Sound ModsIf you’re like me then you probably wish Skyrim had a bit more ambient noise.

Chirping birds outside, creepy moans in dungeons, or the chatter of townsfolk all help make the game feel more immersive. This mod adds a ton of great, immersive audio to the game that felt missing before. The default audio is flat and inaccurate in Skyrim VR.

This fixes that.Sounds are supposed echo and bounce off of surfaces. This mod helps everything sound and feel much more realistic.Best Skyrim VR Immersion ModsThis is another mod collection that adds a bunch of lore-appropriate detail to every city.I always thought it was weird there weren’t many light sources around at night time, so this fixes that.Sometimes the draw distance is a bit crummy with trees and mountains and other objects, so this actually adds some atmospheric fog in the distance around mountains. It’s a great effect and helps mask some of the draw distance issues.A lot of the book covers look like trash and are repeated throughout the game.

This one makes every book and readable object unique! Some people hate how dramatic the ragdoll can be in the base game, so this can tone it down for you. Or, if you’re like me, maybe you crank it up a little bit higher. This one just adds a bunch of minor magical-themed enhancements to the college to make it feel more like a proper Mage’s College. This one adds a bunch of varied birds. That’s about it.This mod but the short version is that it makes NPCs behave more realistically. Definite must-have for immersion.Adds lore-appropriate guards and soldiers to the overworld on patrol paths. They can help you in battle if nearby and even fight each other when they cross paths.Exactly what it says.

Adds more bandits sprinkled around the wilderness. It always bothered me how isolated the College of Winterhold was, so this adds school outposts to the major cities. It never made sense to me why wards couldn’t block melee attacks — this made mages feel under-powered at times. This mod fixes that.Best Skyrim VR Follower ModsThis mod lets you take multiple followers, manage their outfits, spells, and combat style, and even assign them to a certain home and level up their skills.

They’ll also ride horses, make camp, and even dance with you.Easily one of the best modded followers ever made for Skyrim. He’s fully voiced with tons of personality. Grab this mod if you want an excellent companion on your journey. If you’d rather take a female companion that’s less annoying than Lydia, Sofia is a good choice. She’s also fully-voiced and really well-done with a great sense of humor.Best Skyrim VR Weapon and Armor ModsAdds a ton of lore-friendly armor to the game, spread out throughout all of Skyrim, so you find it all naturally.Carry weight always feels too small? This is nifty lore-friendly way to increase how much you can carry by equipping bags.Lets you and NPCs wear cloaks. I love this one.Adds more clothing variety.Lots of new weapons added to the game and spread out.Same as before, but more.Same as the other two, but more still.Makes the artifacts in Skyrim more powerful and unique than before.Best Skyrim VR Gameplay and Content ModsMihail actually has a whole collection of mods that add all kinds of creatures, animals, and monsters. Look through the list and pick the ones you want.More dragon diversity with unique models, textures, and even new abilities.

Definitely makes things a bit more exciting.Enchanting is one of the most underrated but most powerful parts of Skyrim, this mod makes it even better. After spending almost seven years with the spells in Skyrim it’s time for a change. This mod adds 155 new spells that all feel lore-friendly without breaking the game. A lot of these abilities frankly should have been included to begin with and makes playing a mage way more fun.I’m a sucker for things that streamline my access to content, so this one just adds a simple notice board near each tavern that can assign the randomly generated Radiant Quests at will. Super nifty. Now finally, before you play, make sure you to get the mods set up correctly and then.

Then you should be good to go!That’s it for this list. There are thousands of mods for Skyrim out there, many of which work with Skyrim VR, so we can’t possibly include them all here. For more suggestions check outWe left out large quest mods, location expansions, or major overhauls because those typically alter the game and throw in non-lore-friendly content, so we intend on doing follow-ups to this article to focus on some of those larger standalone expansion-style mods instead.Did we miss any of your favorites? Well my point was that you could showcase less distasteful nude mods. The game has decapitation, so you are still advocating and recommending mods in an already mature game. I personally started sex ed around 11 and I don't see why murdering people is less taboo than the human body. I don't like going around staring at virtual junk myself, but I'd like to see a guide include recommendations for those who feel it increases their immersion.

There's an ocean full of weird fetish crap, I think finding and recommending something decent will be appreciated by many people. It's not a personal issue to me, I just find it odd pretty much everything else is covered bar this. The best mods that provides meshes for this are already very well know (Better Males, UNP, CBBE). Better Males is already included in STEP so those users could install the nude option if they wanted. As for the textures and this guide, Tempered Males already has an option for nude willies hanging out.

I'll likely include Tempered Females too which has various options for nudity as well. For me, the body mod that would really enhance the game in a meaningful way would be something that would diversify body meshes, and distribute them appropriately amongst NPCs. Meaning, there could actually be different body types in the game - short and stout, tall and skinny, fat bastard, varied heights, etc.

In my Oldrim install, I use with + (oh and of course Consistent Older People). Disparity varies NPC height based on race, Mothers and Daughters adds old lady body meshes (and they're nude, with physics! The bad kind.), COP adds scrunchy old faces, and Diverse Skyrim adds racial diversity to factions.

Lots of audio tools. Color matching for consistent movie looks. Great chroma-keying tool. Theater feature shares movies to all your Apple gear. Edit ts files freeware. Classy themes.

The combined effect is Skyrim feeling much less robotic, more realistic and varied. I'd love to see that really taken all the way.Of course the issue is. Well all the issues that arise with trying to make that kind of mod.

I absolutely love the varied height aspect of Disparity. I don't so much like my NPC's floating above tables they're leaning on though, because of adjusted heights and issues with animations or whatever. I don't like armors looking stretched or oddly shaped, or clipping issues. The best mods that provides meshes for this are already very well know (Better Males, UNP, CBBE).

Would be nice to mention the alternative files if you have not already. That mod baron mentioned is also interesting. I guess I'm just mostly unaware and more like a new user in that respect: I don't pay much attention to releases and you should let me know! You're the guide master after all.I am probably the only dummy that did this. You should put a note in the guide letting people know that the CK needs to be installed in the Skyrim Directory.

Skyrim Special Edition Better Hair

I did not realize I had a fresh install that I never played so Beth.Net was installing the CK in the wrong folder. I knew something was goofy but spent the past day and half trying to figure out the issue. It was just lack of knowledge.Nah it did that to me the other day.

I just closed it as I couldn't be bothered to change the path and I don't like the CK anyway, so that was a good excuse to not use it. Next time though it found the game's Steam folder and all was well. So you are not a dummy, it should find the path automatically. I am using Tempered skins for both males and females and they look great(specially with the Subsurface Scattering Shaders for Skins) people recommended Diversity and overwrite with Tempered but I don't like apachii hair styles and only used Superior Lore-Friendly Hair.Shiva updated the missing shoe textures for Tempered so are a much better appearance, maybe that helps with choices?@xpander For hair, I used in conjunction with KS Hairdos; it cuts the hair options down to 145 from 655 for women and contains the more lore-friendly hairs that have fewer clipping issues. If used with per the mod author's suggestion, the hair is that much more realistic. I am playing with the first two mods (you need KS Hairdos for Immersive KS Hairdos) with no issues. I have not tried Salt and Wind and haven't done much but glance at the mod page so I don't know how compatible it is.EDIT: I've just realized that I misread your post.

I thought you said you didn't use Superior Lore-Friendly Hair, so I was offering up a suggestion! Feel free to ignore me!Edited by jessieca, 30 January 2018 - 10:27 PM. Textures made for UNP should work fine with the vanilla body and FemFeet; UV maps (texture layouts) are very similar.Body comparison:As you can see, UNP covers the same area as vanilla (and some additional areas which are not used by vanilla).Feet comparison:UV map from UNP is not visible because it's completely obscured by FemFeet (meaning they are identical). Lists FemFeet in credits, so it seems that FemFeet was incorporated into UNP.Switching to textures made for UNP should solve the issue with feet seams (vanilla feet use a different layout than FemFeet which is why you get seams with textures intended for vanilla body).

Greetings all, I am following the install here of the Tech Skyrim Special Edition Guide. I am just now installing the Models & Textures section. Flamer was the last one I installed.Okay, when I got here I had installed about 10 or so texture mods and ran Loot and then started the game via Mod Organizer; SKSE.Well, now Skyrim will only run up in the top left corner of my monitor.I use two 40' 4k monitors. My right monitor, where I play my games, is considered the main monitor. I have gone to My Games Skyrim SE and deleted my Skyrim.ini and my SkyrimPrefs.ini. I have done this three times already. The very first time I click on, SkyrimSE.exe in my Skyrim SE directory it tells me that Skyrim will now detect my system and set it to Ultra. The game reverts to 1080p in resolution but goes full screen.

I open options and select it to 3840x2160 and start the game. Skyrim starts and is full screen in 4k, I log into a testing save game I have and run around and its working fine.

Skyrim Special Edition Lore Friendly Hair

No lag no anything.I save once more and then exit the game. I open Mod Organizer and then select SKS RUN. Screen flickers once or twice and then the window gets cut to 1/4 of the size and appears in the upper left of my monitor.Like I mentioned earlier, I have deleted the.ini and Prefs.ini three times.

Each time Skyrim.exe recognizes my system as Ultra and puts it to 1080p in resolution. But as soon as I use MO SKSERUN it puts the game back into 1/4 mode.Might anyone have any ideas, I have attached a screenshot.

It's a wide shot as it covers all of the screen real estate. You can see the game running in the top left of the middle of the pic. Here is a link to PhotoBucket and picture of my desktop.Thank you for your time in all of this.Regards,Mereinid. I found the.ini/Prefs.ini you mentioned. I changed the FullScreen to 1 and the setting below ihorizontal/vertical or something like that.

To 3840/2160. The game started via SKSE and now it took up the entire left side of the screen so exactly half of the screen top to bottom. However the game options; Continue, Load, New.etc etc. Were all off the bottom of the screen. So i had to CTRL alt Delete out of that to shut it down via task manager.I deleted the two.ini/prefs.ini. And the game started in full screen. I opened the folder back up Mod OrganizerProfiles The.ini's have not repopulated but the game works now.I am pretty sure this going to come back and bite me in the ass later. Is it, despite the obvious, okay to continue to mod the game and run it without the Mod Organizer.ini's in the Profiles name folder?
