How To Install Obse Oblivion Steam
Just make sure you have unpacked the files obse12416.dll, obseeditor12.dll, obsesteamloader.dll and the Data folder into the Oblivion directory and OBSE should load properly. If you still have problems, make sure you have the Steam Overlay enabled. The simplest way is to delete the Oblivion folder completely. The new install will re create the folder for you. This is especially important if you are installing to a new location on Vista and Win7. This will also remove all of the helper programs you have in the Oblivion folder. Such as OBMM, OBSE and some others. For some reason whenever I try to run OBSE, it tells me I have an unknown version of oblivion. Anyone know why or how I can fix this? Edit: I solved it. I downloaded the gog launcher and it wouldnt work, and then I realized it's because the unnoficial patch didn't install but all the other mods did, so it was causing it to crash.
I will take you step-by-step through the process of installing mods for Oblivion, and soon you will be gaming like the rest of us! Note that these instructions are based on Windows 7. Install Oblivion, and for this tutorial we will be using this path 'C:GamesBethesda SoftworksOblivion'. If you installed your game into your program files folder (which is not recommended), right click the Oblivion.exe either in the Install folder or on your desktop, click properties, navigate to the 'Compatibility' tab, and tick the checkbox next to 'Run this program as an administrator'. Download a mod you want to install either through NMM or manually.
Oblivion Mods
NMM-Installation: First make sure is installed. Then simply double-click the mod in the 'Mods' tab of NMM after it has finished downloading your mod.
It will now begin to install your mod. If you are updating a mod you already have, it will prompt you if you want to update or install separately - what to choose here will vary from mod to mod, so be sure to read the installation instructions of each mod! Once it is installed, you can manage the load order in the 'Plugins' tab, where you can simply drag-and-drop the esp to change the load order. If the mod has no esp/esm, it won't appear in the 'plugins' tab, but don't worry, it is still installed. If the mod has a esp/esm, be sure to activate it by ticking the checkbox next to it in the plugins tab. OBMM-Installation: Once the mod is downloaded, open OBMM, and click 'Create' in the bottom of the window. A new window called 'omod creator' will appear.

Click 'Add archive', navigate to the folder where you downloaded the archive, and double click it. (This may take a while, depending on how big the archive is). Once that is done, you can add a name to the mod, version number, and author in the text boxes in the omod creator.
Once done, click 'Create omod' at the bottom right of the window. After it's done loading and decompressing, a window will pop up and tell you it is done, just click OK. In the main OBMM window there will now be two parts.
The left part lists all your active mods and the right part lists mods you have installed. You will see your mod in the right list with a green square. The green square means it's inactive. Click the mod to highlight it and press activate.

The square should turn blue and appear in the left list. Tick the checkbox next to the mod in the left list. Manual Installation: Download and install. Once you have downloaded the mod, open the archive (.7z,.zip or.rar) with 7zip, and click extract.
Extract the files so that the files (esp, bsa, etc.) and the folders (meshes, textures, sounds, etc.) are in the Oblivion data folder (GamesBethesda SoftworksOblivionData). Activate the mod through your preferred launcher by ticking the checkbox next to the esp/esm. You have now installed a mod.
IF YOU PURCHASED A RETAIL (NON-STEAM) VERSION OF OBLIVION:1. Copy obse12416.dll, obseeditor12.dll, and obseloader.exe to your Oblivion directory. This is usually in your Program Files folder, and should contain files called 'Oblivion.exe' and 'OblivionLauncher.exe'.2. Run oblivion by running obseloader.exe from the Oblivion directory. If you use a desktop shortcut to launch Oblivion normally, just update the shortcut to point to obseloader.exe instead of oblivion.exe.IF YOU ARE USING THE STEAM VERSION OF OBLIVION:1. Copy obse12416.dll, obseeditor12.dll, and obsesteamloader.dll to your Oblivion directory. This is usually 'C:Program FilesValveSteamSteamAppscommonoblivion'.2. Ensure you have enabled the Steam community in-game, or OBSE will fail to load.
Go to Steam Settings In-Game and check the box marked 'Enable Steam Community In-Game'.3. Launch Oblivion via Steam or by running Oblivion.exe. OBSE will automatically be run along with Oblivion when launched. To disable this, rename or move obsesteamloader.dll. You do not need to use obseloader.exe unless you are running the editor.Just follow these instructions for a correct installation.Posts: 3431 Joined: Fri Aug 04, 2006 1:35 pm. I think I know what your problem is.
It is mod installation with OBMM that fails, right? This is because the installation scripts of some mods check whether OBSE is present, and the way OBMM finds that, is by looking for 'obseloader.exe' in your Oblivion folder.
And since the OBSE readme doesn't tells Steam users to install this, they get into a problem. There's two solutions to this. Either edit the installation script (right-click on the omod and select 'View Script', then find the lines at the start, that checks for OBSE and remove then, then close and answer yes to save changes), or copy 'obseloader.exe' into your Oblivion folder. I haven't tested the latter, but it has been reported to work, and only means that this will be an otherwise unused file in your Oblivion folder.Posts: 3396 Joined: Sat Jul 08, 2006 9:56 pm. Hope you didn't expect an animated gif of an OBSE guy dancing macarena:huh:Not sure what is the folder you're talking about. To tell if OBSE is working check for the presence of the obsesteamloader.log file in your oblivion directory. You should have an obse.log as well.No its just with the non steam version as soon as you hit the oblivion.exe you get a black obse loader command box, and then the game instantly loads. And that folder i was reffering to was the oblivion directory.
I have a obse steam loader text file is that a log? It says: crc = A2408F04dll = d:gamessteamsteamappscommonoblivionobse12416.dlli will load the game later today after i have installed the rest of my mods and see what will happen.Posts: 3426 Joined: Sat Jan 20, 2007 4:46 pm.
